The ongoing conflict that our country is so deeply mired into for the past ten years has claimed the lives of so many innocent people. The most serious concern is that the country seems to be heading towards the situation where it will have to suffer from various problems due to the dire consequences of the conflict and lose its economic, social and emotional well being. The most affected from the conflict are the innocent children, who come from the disadvantaged socio-economic background. So many of them have lost their parents. Due to the government and Maoist sponsored violence some 8000 children have been displaced, around 300 have died and around 2500 children have become orphan in the most important phase of their lives. Their mental state is severely damaged by the scenes of the murder and inhuman brutalizing of their family members, which they are compelled to witness. So many of them have died. Protecting and rehabilitating these children and giving them a good environment for their normal physical, mental and psycholog1ical growth are the challenges facing us now.

Children have been seriously affected by the violent conflict that has been going on in our country for so long. Their normal physical, mental and psychological growths are the challenges facing us now. The convention of child’s right (November 20, 1981) has declared that its children’s right to get education, good health, proper upbringing and other child rights. Fulfilling the children’s basic needs, providing health opportunities, protecting them from the risky jobs providing them the opportunities to earn a decent livelihood are the main concern of the convention. Therefore, it is very important that children are provided psychosocial treatment, the opportunity to school, vocational training and skills to help them be independent. As the violence has long lasting affect in children’s mind, the country is indeed paying a heavy price in terms of its worsening condition of its future manpower.
